Which one is the best irrigation controller for your garden?

The choice of an irrigation controller is something that depends on various factors such as:

Budget- from the DIY tap timer to a completely integrated and installed automatic system

The size of the watering are- from a huge garden to a small townhouse

Where you live- the frequency and amount of rainfall on your land

Primary Irrigation controllers

The tap timer is the most fundamental irrigation controller. It should be manually switched on every time. These timers are beneficial for people with a very low budget, or for gardeners who want to be in charge of when the garden is watered. They need no batteries or electricity to work, and are quite low tech and low maintenance.

To install and utilize a tap timer:

1. Attach the top portion of the clock work timer by screwing it safely to the tap.

2. Click the reticulation system to the bottom end utilizing regular tap fittings.

3. If the tap timer of the Hunter SRM has two outlets, click the hose connection to the other fitting and switch between the two options as required.

4. Make sure the tap is completely turned on and turn the timer clockwise to the preferred time.

Completely automated irrigation controllers

This is the ultimate in convenient watering. The benefits are you never have to remember to water your garden, the ideal amount of water is delivered in the ideal places at the right time, and as the controllers are generally installed indoors, you can conveniently change the program as required. Drawbacks are that they care costly to install, don’t work when there is an electrical outage, and the valves of the irrigation controllers bought from My Hunter Store can fail occasionally.  Watering by hand doesn’t make sense, hence take your time and the environment in consideration and install the irrigation controllers.
